Afternoon High Tea & Musical Memories in the Historic Oak Hall

- Scratch-baked scones and floral cupcakes by in-house chefs
- Traditional English tea served in fine china
- Acoustic performance of classic 1940s and 50s melodies
- Open gathering uniting residents, staff, and visiting families
Few British traditions bring more shared smiles than a proper afternoon high tea. Last week, Stewton House hosted its seasonal Afternoon Tea gathering in our majestic wood-paneled hall, designed nearly a century ago by Sir Charles Allom.
Our kitchen team prepared a delicious spread from scratch, including warm fruit and plain scones served with thick clotted cream and strawberry preserves, delicate finger sandwiches, and handcrafted buttercream floral cupcakes. Special dietary versions were freshly crafted for residents requiring dysphagia-friendly (IDDSI) modified diets, ensuring everyone partook in the celebration.
The gathering was enriched with gentle live musical accompaniment featuring beloved tunes from Vera Lynn, Glenn Miller, and Frank Sinatra. Many residents sang along effortlessly, tapping feet and sharing fond memories of ballroom dances from decades past.
Uniting multiple generations under one roof is at the very core of our community philosophy. Our unrestricted open visiting policy meant children, grandchildren, and friends could pull up a chair, share a cake, and enjoy unhurried quality time with their loved ones.
